An L300 van collided with an Isuzu Forward cargo truck in Barangay Taboc, San Juan, La Union on Wednesday night (May 23), leaving one dead and seven were injured.
The driver of the L300 van, 23-year-old Christian Martinez, was declared dead on arrival at Bethany Hospital while the seven injured are undergoing treatment.
Investigation is underway to determine what caused the accident.
According to San Juan Police Chief PMaj. Bernabe Oribillo, the L300 van was plying south when it crashed onto the truck.
“Base sa ating investigation initial findings sa scene of accident parang nag-encroach itong L300 na papuntang south, so nasagi niya itong cargo truck, (Based on our investigation, the initial findings in the scene of the accident showed that this L300 [van] encroached while plying south so he collided with the cargo truck)” he said.
Meanwhile, the cargo van driver Defensor Wagteng is now in San Juan Police custody.—(with reports from Toto Fabros)
