The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) supports Manila Mayor-elect Francisco ‘Isko’ Moreno Domagoso’s platforms including the ‘Pagkain sa Basura’ program.
MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said they will cooperate with the mayor elect to lessen the waste in Manila.
“Kami ay makikipagtulungan kay Isko Moreno para sa Maynila kung ano ang problema ng basura dito ay walang dahilan kung bakit hindi iyan maa-address kung tayo’y makikipatulungan sa mayor (We will cooperate with Isko Moreno for Manila. There is no reason it [garbage problem] will not be addressed if we cooperate with the mayor),” he said.
According to MMDA’s Flood Control and Sewerage Management Office (FCSMO), 400 truckloads of garbage were collected from the Manila Bay cleanup. This is equal to 3,018 cubic meters of rubbish and silt collected from January 27 to May 17.
Lim assured they will continue the clearing operations on Manila’s waterways.
“Pati ang mga canal, drainage kine-clear natin iyan para iyong pagbaha, magtatag-ulan na naman so tuloy-tuloy ‘yan hindi tuwing bago magpasukan, (We will clear the canals, and drainage to avoid flooding during rainy season. So we will continue this before the school opens)” Lim added.
The department also said they plan to install cisterns or tanks in preparation for the rainy season. However, they are still deciding on which areas to install them.
Lim reiterated that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) should coordinate with them in order to place cisterns in Manila.
