The petition of incumbent Isabela mayor, Joselito Malabor, for an election recount was approved by the La Carlota Regional Trial Court.

The La Carlota Regional Trial Court already ordered the ballot transfer from the Isabela Municipal Treasurer to the office of the clerk of court.

“Na-grant na ng korte at hopefully bukas ililipat na ang mga ballot box mula sa munisipyo. Kung ipa-recount natin pabor talaga sa atin ang boto ng mga taong bayan ng Isabela malaki ang chance na mananalo tayo, (The court has already granted [the petition], and hopefully the ballot boxes from the municipality will be transferred tomorrow. A recount would show that the people’s vote in Isabela really favors us. There is a huge chance we will win),” he said.

Based on the election results, Malabor lost by 48 votes to Dr. Irene Montilla but Malabor believes there is a discrepancy in the vote counting.

Two other defeated mayoral bets in Negros Occidental also filed respective petitions for a manual recount. They are incumbent Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña and former La Castellana Vice Mayor Felix Feria IV.

Peña was defeated by his niece Vice Mayor Ella Garcia Yulo by over 7,000 votes. Meanwhile, Feria was defeated by incumbent mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan by around 4,000 votes.(with reports from Lalaine Moreno)
