A Chinese tourist has fallen victim to suspected ‘Ativan Gang’ in Manila on Thursday (July 18).
The victim, whose name was not disclosed, reported to the authorities. Her belongings were allegedly stolen by four unidentified individuals.
She recalled to have met them, three women and one man, at Manila Bay on Wednesday afternoon (July 17).
“So, I joined them for walk and we talked a lot, like food, like traditions, cuisines, a lot of things. I enjoyed it. We all enjoyed it. So, that’s not bad. So I joined them for dinner also,” the victim said.
After spending a bit of time together, they decided to go to a karaoke bar. However, she can no longer remember what happened afterwards.
She woke up in her hotel room with no memory of the incident and with all her money and other belongings gone.
“I just lost my mind. I don’t remember anything. I don’t remember how I got here and things just like that and when I woke up, I lost my phone, my credit cards, my earphones and some other things and also all cash,” she said.
According to the Hostel personnel, three foreign nationals have already fallen victim to the same modus this month.
“So the first time was a Japanese foreigner. Nanakawan siya like near here. And the second one naman is an Australian naman. And then, nanakaw sa kaniya drone and about like P300,000 worth of cash,” according to Operations Manager of the Hostel Toby Benjamin.
Meanwhile, despite the incident the Chinese tourist would still recommend the Philippines as one of the places to visit.
“I feel surprised when I take the train, someone always have their own seats for me. I say it’s okay. They keep insisting that. Maybe I feel so moved and so I would definitely recommend to my friends to come,” she said.—AAC (with reports from Asher Cadapan Jr.)
