Nine-year-old student Renz Carlo Acevedo looks intently at the board. He is sitting at the back row. As sunlight illuminates the room, it reveals an eagerness to learn reflected in his eyes.
“I want to be a teacher,” he said.
As he firmly holds his pencil in his right hand, he carefully embraces his baby sister who is silently sleeping in his left arm.
Renz goes to New Katipunan Elementary School in Agusan del Sur. Often without an allowance or uniform, Renz still goes to school—even with an empty stomach.
Most of the time, he would bring his sister while their parents work on the farm.
Renz has captured the hearts of netizens after his photo went viral on social media.
Another photo showed Renz taking his eyes off the board for a moment to focus on his sister and give her a lollipop.
Netizen Herald Apole posted three photos of Renz which perfectly encapsulated his love for learning, as well as his love for his sibling.—AAC
