The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday told motorists to expect heavy traffic along Elliptical Road in Quezon City as it undergoes repair starting Friday (July 26).
In an advisory, the MMDA said the repair works will be conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways to address perennial flooding in the area.
“One lane shall be closed on Friday at 11 pm and shall be opened again by Monday at 5 am. The same schedule will be applied the following weekend,” said MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia.
The repair works will involve the elevation of the middle portion the road, affecting five lanes that usually experience flooding during heavy rains.
Garcia assured that road would remain passable to motorists as only one lane per segment will be repaired per week. Additional traffic personnel will also be deployed in the area to guide the motorists.
The rehabilitation of Quezon City’s two-kilometer roundabout was initially slated to begin last July 12 but was postponed.
The repair works, which is expected to last for one year, is in line with the Metro Rail Transit line 7 (MRT-7) project.
