MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) remains silent over the status of foreign drug convicts released through the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law.
According to an agency official who requested anonymity, they cannot disclose nor confirm any information on whethere or not the said foreign convicts have already departed the country.
Meantime, the BI is reviewing each of the convicts’ immigration details before the agency releases its final report regarding the freed foreign convicts including Chinese drug lords.
Based on the list of released convicts under GCTA obtained by UNTV, 17 were foreigners sentenced for drug trafficking.
On Thursday (September 12), five buses loaded with foreign nationals was sighted in front of the BI office in Intramuros, Manila.
The agency, however, refused to comment as to why the foreigners were there and what were their cases.
But according to a source and information obtained by UNTV, those foreign nationals were rearrested fugitives.
About 200 of them were Chinese nationals with expired passports and alien documents but managed to overstay in the country to work. — MNP (with details from Aiko Miguel)
