MANILA, Philippines – The Pasig City government has officially turned over its two ferry boats to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to be added to the existing fleet for the Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS).

The turn-over was held during Wednesday’s signing of the memorandum of agreement between the MMDA and the Pasig City government.

“Improved facilities, more boats, information dissemination, and consistency will make the PRFS ridership increase and even double in number,” Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto said during the ceremony.

The two 57-seater ferry boats, M/B Mutya ng Pasig 1 and 2, are equipped with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to ensure safety of passengers. It also has overhead electric fans for ventilation and toilet room.

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim thanked Sotto for his city’s donation.

“The two boats donated to the PRFS by the City of Pasig is surely a big help to continually give the best service to our passengers,” Lim said.

Since its relaunch in December 2019, the Pasig ferry service accommodates an average of 700 to 1,000 passengers a day.

MMDA Deputy Chairman and PRFS Head Undersecretary Frisco San Juan, Jr. said that other local government units in Metro Manila have pledged support to the project.

He said the Manila City government has pledged to donate two boats while Pasig LGU proposed a free shuttle ride to the station during rush hour to promote the ferry service.

San Juan also revealed that the Office of the President has promised to donate two boats to the service.

The MMDA earlier announced that the Pasig River ferry ride will remain free until March 31.
