MANILA, Philippines – A Guinean national, who allegedly attempted to enter the country by passing himself as a Portuguese, was barred at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the foreigner as Fatoumata Tanou Diallo, 38. She was arrested on Tuesday, March 3 upon her arrival at NAIA Terminal 1 from Incheon, South Korea.
BI’s Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. said the suspect assumed the identity of her sister, Ruguiato Djalo.
“During inspection, our officer noticed that Diallo’s facial features did not match with the picture in the passport she was carrying. She also failed to present other identification cards, or any proof of her admission and departure from South Korea,” Manahan said in a statement.
The BI said Diallo’s real identity was later revealed when she surrendered her Republique de Guinee passport.
Manahan said Diallo has been returned to her port of origin, and was included in the immigration’s blacklist, banning her from re-entering the Philippines.
Djalo’s Portuguese passport was subsequently confiscated for eventual turnover to the Portuguese Embassy.
Morente then warned foreign nationals against attempting to deceive immigration officers.
“Our officers have undergone forensic training. They are trained to detect fraud. Deceiving our officers will only get you in trouble,” he said.
