MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday announced that the 2020 Bar Examinations would not be held earlier than February next year.
In a Bar bulletin posted on SC’s Twitter account, the 2020 exams’ chairperson SC Associate Justice Marvic Leonen said the high court decided to hold the exams at a later date “due to increasing number of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the prevailing quarantine protocols all over the nation, and the continuing uncertainty.”
“The Supreme Court En Banc, upon the recommendation of the 2020 Bar Examinations Chairperson, resolved to announce the schedule of the next Bar Examination to a later date to allow time for a more considered deliberation,” Leonen said.
“For the guidelines of all concerned, however, please note that the next bar examination will definitely not be held at a date earlier than February 2021,” he added.
The SC traditionally holds the Bar examinations annually in November and announces the results either in April or May the following year.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the SC, for the first time in the history of bar examinations, announced the results of 2019 tests online through the SC website.
The oathtaking of new lawyers last June 25 was also conducted through video conferencing.
