MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is still finalizing the routes where public utility jeepneys (PUJs) could operate.
According to LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra, they have already identified 30 routes for traditional PUJs which are scheduled to open within the week.
Delgra, however, reminds traditional jeepney drivers who will be allowed to resume operations to secure a special permit in addition to their vehicles passing the emission and road worthiness test.
UV Express service units began plying major roads again in Metro Manila on Monday (June 29) to augment the limited transportation under the general community quarantine (GCQ) in relation to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
Modern jeepneys have also been allowed to operate, prompting critics to allege that the LTFRB was using the COVID-19 pandemic to push the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program; an allegation which LTFRB has denied. MNP (with inputs from Joan Nano)
