MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday evening (December 28) announced that Metro Manila and Davao City will continue to be under General Community Quarantine(GCQ) for the entire month of January.
Also under GCQ are Isabela, Santiago City, Batangas, Iloilo City, Tacloban City, Lanao del Sur, Iligan City and Davao del Norte. All other areas are placed under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
The new round of quarantine classifications will take effect on January 1 until January 31, 2020, subject to local government units’ appeals.
Duterte called on the public anew to stay at home and refrain from taking unnecessary trips outdoors.
“The rule is, kung maaring wag ka nang lumabas ng bahay, wag ka nang lumabas,” he said.
Last Saturday, the Chief Executive mentioned the possibility of a second nationwide lockdown should the new COVID-19 variant find its way into the country.
This is also the reason for the increased security in the country’s borders and the extended travel ban on flights from the United Kingdom where the new COVID-19 variant is reported to be spreading fast.
