MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang is not convinced that the case involving flight attendant Christine Dacera is already solved.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the fiscal office is still collating evidence; therefore, it cannot be considered that the investigation has ended.
The Duterte administration expressed condolences to the bereaved family while its vows to serve justice for the death of the flight attendant.
“Ang pangako po ng presidente, makakamit ang katarungan sa pamilya Dacera. Malalaman po natin ang katotohanan (The President promised that justice will be served to the Dacera family. We shall know the truth),” Roque said.
“Sa administrasyon po ni Pangulong Duterte, dahil siya po ay abogado, at isang piskal, hindi niya hahayaan na ang mga kriminal ay hindi po paparusahan (Under the administration of President Duterte, since he is a lawyer and once a fiscal, he will not allow any criminal not to be punished),” he added.
The Palace official also allayed fear that the case might not prosper with the release of the three arrested suspects.
Roque attested that what the fiscal did was in line with the legal process.
“Iyon pong ginawa ng piskal, ayon po iyan sa (What the fiscal did was in accordance with the) rules of criminal procedures,” he said.
“Ang layon po nito ay upang ma-convict beyond reasonable doubt yung mga suspek sa karumal-dumal na pagpatay na ito (The purpose was to convict beyond reasonable doubt the suspects in this heinous crime),” he added.
Amid various claims and speculations circulating on social media about the case, Roque asked the public to wait for the final result of the authorities’ investigation on the matter before making any conclusion.
“It’s a continuing investigation. The NBI has gotten involved in it so antayin po natin na maconclude ang imbestigasyon. (let’s wait for the conclusion of the investigation). Obviously po dahil may hiningi pang ebidensya ang ating piskal (Obviously since the fiscal is still asking for more evidence) case is not yet closed,” he ended. —MNP (with reports from Rosalie Coz)
