MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines on Wednesday posted 9,868 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide case count to 2,622,917.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the number of active cases in the country has gone down to 112,807.

Of this tally, 76.7 percent are mild, 13.9 percent are asymptomatic, 5.49 percent are moderate, 2.8 percent are severe, and 1.2 percent are in critical condition.

This is the second day that the DOH reported less than 10,000 new cases.

Meanwhile, total number of recoveries rose to 2,471,282 after 133 more patients recovered from the viral respiratory disease.

The death toll remained at 38,828 as the DOH is still facing technical issues with COVIDKaya system, which is being used to handle, receive, and process bulk data from the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

“The DOH is in constant coordination with the DICT to resolve technical issues with COVIDKaya,” it said in its bulletin.

“DOH will again issue necessary public advisories to report additional deaths not included in today’s case bulletin due to technical issues of COVIDKaya,” it added.

The agency noted that two accredited testing laboratories failed to submit data on time.

DOH data also showed a positivity rate of 18.2 percent out of the 43,759 tests reported on Oct. 4.

The DOH said that ICU beds allotted for COVID-19 patients are 71 percent occupied nationwide, and 69 percent in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Ventilators in use are 54 percent of the total 3,400 nationwide, and 57 percent of the 1,100 units in the capital region.
