MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government is finalizing its plans to donate some of the country’s unused supply of COVID-19 vaccines to Myanmar and Papua New Guinea, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said among the vaccine supplies that will be donated are those that are set to expire in three months.
The DOH, however, is still verifying what brand and how many doses will the country send to the two nations.
“Magdo-donate lang tayo ng kailangan nila at tsaka iyong sa tingin natin maaari nating itulong but not all the excess stock piles will be provided… Meron po tayong ititira because we still need it,” Vergeire said.
Around 27 million COVID-19 vaccine shots in the country’s stockpile will expire in July. Most of these doses were either procured by local governments and the private sector or donated by other countries.
The Philippines has so far fully vaccinated 66.2 million Filipinos against COVID-19, 71.4 million have received their first dose while 12.2 million were given booster shots.
