MANILA, Philippines — Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Etta Rosales gave her sympathies to the families of the ‘Fallen 44’ during the testimonial dinner of the Constitutional Fiscal Autonomy Group (CFAG) last Friday.
She said the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) will have an independent investigation for the death of the 44 Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
This is in accordance with RA 9851 or the “Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity”.
“Now we have to show them that they in fact protectors of human rights they are defenders of human rights and they too deserve that their humans rights must be respected and protected,” Rosales said.
The CHR is in Cotabato this February 3 and 4 as a part of their independent investigation.
CHR regional offices plan to talk to MILF and CHR Chairperson Etta Rosales will coordinate with the International Monitoring Team (IMT), the Coordinating Committees on Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) and the PNP to secure the set investigation.
The investigation will focus on the brutal killing of the 44 PNP-SAF men in order to serve justice to them.
“That is the cry of the families, we want justice, justice is what we need so justice should be served by coming out with the truth,” Rosales added.
Commission on Human Rights will provide legal and financial assistance and psychosocial therapy for the grieved families.
Chairperson Etta Rosales clarified that they will only give their judgment about the death of the 44 PNP-SAF after the independent and forensic investigation. (Victor Cosare, UNTV News)
