MANILA, Philippines – Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said on Thursday at the Senate hearing that there is information of a coup plot against the Aquino administration due to the Mamasapano encounter.

But the Philippine National Police (PNP) maintained that they have not monitored any action against the present administration.

According to PNP PIO chief Police Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr., it is hard for such actions to get past them because they will know of any coup plot before it can be started.

Cerbo said that he sees no reason for the PNP to launch a coup, particularly the Special Action Force (SAF).

Though the entire institution admitted grief for the fate of their 44 comrades, it is not sufficient reason to launch a coup d’état.

“We are in a state of mourning firstly. So we can all feel it but to say that we are disgruntled and connect it to a coup, we have not monitored anything like that,” he said.

Cerbo said that the policemen are loyal and professional so the entire national police force need not go through a loyalty check.

Cerbo also said that the sentiment of all policemen is to know the whole truth into the Mamasapano encounter and attain justice for the death of 44 police commandos.

“This is the reason why we have a Board of Inquiry. We also want to know if there are those who are answerable, they should be held liable,” Cerbo added.

The PNP has not disregarded the death of their 44 commandos but they said this is not a reason to launch a coup against the administration which will surely break the peace in the nation which the slain SAF 44 were fighting for. (Aiko Miguel / UNTV News)
