MANILA, Philippines – Three Makabayan bloc congressmen personally submitted their letter addressed to the House Speaker.
33 congressmen who are mostly from majority coalition also signed the petition.
The petition aimed at resuming the House investigation on Mamasapano incident and the hearing on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
The group explained that House suspended the hearing on BBL and Mamasapano probe because they want to have the final report first on the PNP’s Board of Inquiry. Once Congress have the said report, House should also continue the investigation.
“Our constituents in many, if not all the districts in the country clamor for truth and accountability on the issue and it is our function as their representatives to press for their demand,” Gabriela Party-list Rep. Luzmininda Ilagan said.
The Makabayan bloc also said they still have a lot of questions for the resource persons, such as the extent of the participation of resigned PNP chief Alan Purisima on the Mamasapano operation.
They also want to know the degree of involvement by the United States in the operation and who is accountable for the failed operation resulting in the death of 44 PNP-SAF members in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25.
“With due respect to the Senate. If they think that their investigation is already complete, for us a lot is still unanswered,” Bayan Muna Party-list Rep. Carlos Zarate said. (Grace Casin / UNTVNews)
