MANILA, Philippines – The Sandiganbayan 5th Division has granted Senator Jinggoy Estrada’s motion to attend the graduation of his son Julian Estrada on Tuesday at the OB Montessori in San Juan City.
Initially, the Senator asked the court for him to leave his detention facility from 1 PM to 7:30 p.m. but the court denied the long hours requested.
Instead, the court granted the Senator only 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to attend the graduation rites.
The prosecution submitted their opposition but the court set that aside and decided immediately on the motion.
According to Associate Justice Roland Jurado, the decision was not for the benefit of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada but for his son who might face trauma for not seeing his parents on this important day.
“This is very significant for my son. Of course he would want his parents to be around on his graduation. And this only happens once in a lifetime that my son will graduate,” Estrada said.
The court meanwhile orders the head of Philippine National Police to ensure the security of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada as he leaves the PNP Custodial Center. (Joyce Balancio / UNTV News)
