Manila, Philippines — Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are now becoming more frequent in the country. PAGASA said, this is a sign that the dry season is ending.
The amount of rainfall is currently being recorded in areas affected by drought and dry spell in the past months.
While the temperature in Metro Manila has been reaching 35 degrees Celsius, it is now less likely to increase further.
“I think the temperature will not increase further because we can see signs that the rainy season is coming,” said PAGASA weather specialist Anthony Lucero.
In the coming rainy season, PAGASA does not see any large reductions in the amount of rainfall. But if the El Niño phenomenon continues, its effects will be felt in the country up to the 1st quarter of 2016.
According to Lucero we are still experiencing a weak el niño which is not too detrimental for us. However, we might feel the effects in the last quarter of the year. This is most sensitive in October, November and December. If it will continue, we will feel the effects up to the first quarter of next year which could mean a large decrease in the amount of rainfall.
Tropical cyclones which enter the Philippine area of responsibility become stronger during the El Niño phenomenon, especially during the months of October, November and December. (REY PELAYO /UNTV News)
