QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan waited the whole day for the resolution of the court granting Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile his temporary freedom over a plunder case in relation to the pork barrel scam.

Despite the holiday announcement today, the court opened the docket section, cashier and the 3rd division clerk office to accommodate the needed processing for posting bail.

Security in the entrances was heightened as the court was also expecting Sen. Enrile’s presence today.

Two lawyers of Enrile also waited at the clerk office for the ruling of the Supreme Court.

Atty. Eleazar Reyes said, the senator is all packed up and is eager to return to his post in the senate.

They have also readied the bail amounting to one million four hundred fifty thousand pesos which will afford his temporary freedom.

According to 3rd Division Clerk of Court Atty Dennis Pulma, as far as he can remember, this is the first time that the Sandiganbayan extended their office duties on a holiday to accommodate an accused.

However he refused to categorically say that this is a special treatment afforded to the senator.
They said the time element was an important consideration of the court since the accused has the right to immediately enjoy the temporary freedom granted to him by the court.

Moreover, Pulma explained, they also hold office during Saturdays for all the accused who would be needing the services of the court.

Since the Supreme Court has not yet released their resolution today, Enrile’s camp will continue to wait tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Sandiganbayan will resume its normal operations tomorrow and will accommodate the senator even if it takes until Saturday.(UNTV News)
