QUEZON CITY, Philippines — A day before the deadline, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved accreditation of Uber into the transport network company or TNC.
As of today, only Grab and Uber are the two transport network companies that can operate legally in the country. Other TNC’s such as Tripda and U-hop are still considered out-of-line unless LTFRB approves their application.
Despite being a non-working holiday in Quezon City today, the LTFRB still went on with the processing of franchise applications of transport network vehicles or TNV’s. Current franchise applications are coming from GrabCar and none still from Uber.
The LTFRB says it would take three days before franchise papers are issued to TNV’s. But this doesn’t mean that those who applied would not be able to operate because the TNV’s may still use the provisional authority given by the LTFRB, while waiting for their franchise.
On Friday, the LTFRB will start apprehending TNV’s operating without official franchise.
Due to this, several Uber drivers are worried since they have not been advised if they are allowed to operate or not.
Passengers who wish to take Uber or GrabCars should download their application on their smartphones; input the necessary details before a ride is booked.
Meanwhile, the LTFRB says it will not hesitate to cancel Uber and GrabCar’s franchise once problems arise concerning their drivers.
As of today, LTFRB has not regulated yet fares among TNC’s. The agency will only act in the event of complaints coming from commuters. (UNTV News)
