QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The Makabayan bloc expressed concern over the spike of Lumad killings in Surigao del Sur.

This has prompted the group to file a resolution in the lower house to probe on the alleged extrajudicial killings of the tribesmen.

As stated in the resolution, Manobo leader Dionel Campos, his cousin Aurelio Sinzo and ALCADEV Executive Director Emerito Amarca were mercilessly killed in Lianga, Surigao Del Sur on September 1.

According to Bayan Muna Partylist Rep. Carlos Zarate, witnesses are pointing at several army personnel who are members of The Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit or CAFGU as the men behind the killings.

“We have accounts from survivors na nakita umano sa pagpatay sa kanilang tatay na kasama ng para-military na ito ang grupo ni Caplit Igua ang mga sundalo from 36th IB and the special forces,” said Zarate.

When Zarate had the chance to ask the AFP Chief of Staff Major General Hernando Iriberri during the deliberation on the proposed budget for the AFP, the lawmaker asked the AFP Chief to explain the issue.

Iriberri denied the reports saying the murderers have already been arrested and they are not members of the AFP.

“I just got the text massage that there were already three persons who were charged before the prosecutor’s office in Lianga; charged for arson, multiple murder, and grave coercion. These three persons are Bobby Tejero, Loloy Tejero and Garito Naino who are not members of the CAFGU,” said Iriberri. (GRACE CASIN / UNTV News)
