MANILA, Philippines — Only a few party-list groups have submitted their list of nominees for the 2016 national elections.

Among the first to arrive at the COMELEC office were Anti-Crime and Terrorism-Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-List and Anakpawis.

1st nominee under ACT-CIS is Maria Rosena Pagdilao, wife of ACT-CIS partylist Rep. Samuel Pagdilao who is now running for senator.
Representing Anakpawis partylist is re-electionist Rafael Mariano.

A new partylist group also submitted nomination by the name “CANCER” or Cancer Avillation Network on Care, Education and Rehabilitation with Global Cancer ambassador Emer Rojas as one of its nominees. The group is advocating assistance to cancer patients and survivors.

A group of witnesses in high profile cases also formed a group called “Witness Partylist” with former AFP budget officer Col. George Rebusa, the witness in the AFP’s alleged “pabaon” scam, as the 1st nominee.

Partylist groups need to submit their certificate of nomination and certificate of acceptance for their nominees.

A partylist is allowed to submit up to five (5) nominees.

Documents need to be submitted to a clerk inside the COMELEC office before they are brought to the receiving area to check if all necessary documents are attached, proceeding to the encoding section.

COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez said, the COMELEC has 244 accredited party list groups so far. However, not all of them are qualified since some have existing cases that need to be resolved.

Jimenez also said that they expect to receive more partylist nominations this year because the Supreme Court has ruled that political parties and groups are allowed to submit their nominees even if they do not represent the marginalized sectors.

The poll body has reiterated that they would implement stricter screening procedures among groups vying for party list elections. After which, the COMELEC will announce all qualified party list groups for the 2016 elections. (GRACE CASIN / UNTV News)
