QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines has stressed that it is not behind the Lumad killings.
This is the AFP’s reaction to the statement of the Commission on Human Rights saying both the Armed Forces and New People’s Army are behind the extrajudicial killings of Lumads.
“We are not involved in extrajudicial killings and if there are members of the Armed Forces or Police who are guilty of that, then they should be brought to the bars of law and we will submit them.”
Col. Restituto Padilla Jr., the spokesperson of the AFP, made it clear that they do not force Lumads to become soldiers, though he added that it is the right of the Lumad tribe to form its own military and train citizen auxiliaries for the tribe’s safety and protection. (ROSALIE COZ / UNTV News)
