MANILA, Philippines — On Monday was the 11th death anniversary of the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. He died in 2004 only a year after the 2003 presidential elections.
Present in commemoration at the Manila North Cemetery were his immediate family, friends, and supporters as well as several senatorial candidates under the Poe-Escudero banner.
Senator Grace Poe led the event. She thanked all who relentlessly support his father’s advocacy and was visibly emotional during her speech.
Sen. Grace Poe said, “Ang aking pinagsisisihan lamang ay yung sya’y namayapa, bago sya namayapa hindi man lang ako nakapagpasalamat sa kanya, kaya ang buhay ko ngayon ay pasasalamat kay FPJ.”
(What I regret the most is not being able to thank him before he died. So my life today is a thanksgiving to FPJ.)
Poe believes that her struggles these days such as the disqualification case is not for herself but for the people.
Sen.
With all these things that I am going through, I always remember what my father taught me — “Do not give up if you’re fighting for what is good. We have long been dreaming of a government free of corruptions and illegal practices.)
Meanwhile, Poe is still hopeful that the Comelec En Banc will favor her after the 1st and the 2nd division of Comelec disqualified her.
Furthermore, her camp is preparing should they need to bring the case to the Supreme Court.
Sen.
(I don’t want to say that I am losing hope but of course, we have to learn from our experiences. I tell myself whatever the result, in the end it’s still up to the Supreme Court .)
