MANILA, Philippines — Sa February 21, isasagawa ang una sa tatlong debate na inorganisa ng Commission on Elections para sa mga kumakandidatong pangulo ng Pilipinas.

Sa Cagayan de Oro City sa Mindanao gagawin ang unang presidential debate at kabilang sa mga usaping tatalakayin ay agricultural development, poverty reduction, charter change at peace and order.

Sa March 20 naman ang ikalawang debate sa Visayas at kasama sa mga posibleng pag-usapan ay disaster preparedness at climate change adaptation, health care, education at paglaban sa kurapsyon.

Sa Luzon naman gagawin ang huling debate sa April 24 at pagtutuunan naman ng pansin ang mga usapin may kinalaman sa traffic and public transportation, electoral and political reforms, foreign policy, tax reform at national defense.

Imbitado sa debate ang lahat ng official candidates sa pagka-pangulo.

Ayon kay COMELEC Chairman Andres Bautista sakaling hindi dumating ang kandidato hindi aalisin ang kaniyang upuan kundi iiwanan itong bakante at nakalagay ang kaniyang pangalan.

Sa April 10 naman isasagawa ang vice presidential debate sa Metro Manila.

Maglalabas din ng guidelines ang COMELEC kaugnay sa presidential at vice presidential debate.

Ayon kay Chairman Bautista, bukod sa mga debateng inorganisa ng poll body, maari pa ring maglunsad ng debate ang ibang grupo subalit kailangan itong ipagpaalam sa komisyon kung magaganap sa panahon ng campaign period.

Sa February 9 ang simula ng campaign period para sa mga national candidate.

Ani Bautista, “After the campaign period starts on February 9, you will need to get an approval from the COMELEC because we want to make sure again that there is a level playing field in respect of how this fora or debates are being conducted.”

Sang-ayon sa fair elections act maaring makapagsagawa ng 3 presidential debate at isang vice presidential debate ang COMELEC.

Huling nakapaglunsad ng debate ang poll body sa pagitan ng mga kandidato noong 1992.
