MANDALUYONG, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority seized 7 tons of illegal campaign materials only in a period of 8 weeks since the campaign period started on February 9.
The MMDA turnedover illegal campaign materials to the Ecowaste Coalition to be recycled into useful items.
Ecowaste Coalition Coordinator Aileen Lucero said, tarpaulins can be repurposed into bags, pouches, shoe organizers and others.
They will also distribute these materials to their community organization partners to be their source of livelihood. If recycled into bags, items can be sold from P50 to P250 each. “These bags are export quality,” Lucero added.
MMMDA Environmental Management Division Chief Francis Martinez said, majority of illegal posters were taken from Quezon City and in Manila City.
Among other candidates, Senator Grace Poe’s campaign materials had been collected the most by MMDA.
As of Wednesday, the MMDA has not apprehended any one placing posters in prohibited areas.
“Magpapa-monitor kami sa gabi magpapaikot ako ng spotter para makita kung saang area, let’s say Manila o QC, para makita kung nagkakabit pa sila,” MMDA Environmental Management Division Chief Francis Martinez said.
(We will monitor in the evening. I will assign spotters to make rounds in different areas in Manila and Quezon cities.)
MMDA General Manager Corazon Jimenez appealed to all candidates to be responsible in posting their campaign materials.
“If our candidates are responsible, alam din nila dapat what are the rules of the game as far as putting their posters are concerned.”
