TAGUIG CITY – The Department of Energy (DOE) assures that there will be enough power supply during the national election but said, they cannot control the occurrence of forced outages.

DOE has created two task forces for the May polls.

The Task Force Election will focus on securing the power supply all over the country this coming May while an Inter-agency Task Force will secure power supply in Mindanao.

The Energy Department has ordered all power plants not to schedule maintenance works two weeks before and after the election period.

DOE has also identified all election centers for the prompt distribution of power supply in May.

But DOE cannot guarantee that there will be no incidents come election period, such as unscheduled forced outages.

Mindanao’s power supply is also in critical condition, a hydroelectric plant is the main source of power in the region and because of the summer season, water level is also in critical condition.

DOE is now monitoring the situation in Maguindanao, North and South Cotabato, Lanao del Norte and Sur, Iligan and Bukidnon.

DOE is also focusing on Negros island. 300 megawatts of the power supply in the area comes from solar power plants.
Supply is in danger when no direct sunlight is hitting the solar panels.

DOE said, brownouts may occur but they assure that all election centers will have power.
