The allies of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte in the Lower House, have increased as nationalist peoples coalition (NPC) signed an agreement to support them.

Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) together with its 50 members has recently signed an agreement to support the PDP-Laban.
According to NPC President Cong. Giogidi Aggabao, they are ready to support the legislative agenda of the Duterte administration.
“NPC to support Pres. Duterte and second an agreement to support Cong. Pantaleon Alvarez as the next speaker of the House of Representatives,” Aggabao said.
Because of this, PDP-Laban president Sen. Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel is confident that they will get the speakership post in the Lower House.
PDP-Laban Secretary General Cong. Pantaleon Alvarez has estimated about 180 congressmen will support his bid as the next house speaker.
He added that there is an ongoing talk between PDP-Laban and National Unity Party (NUP), Makabayan bloc and United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Last Wednesday, Lakas-CMD earlier gave its support to PDP-Laban which also has a coalition with the Nacionalista Party.
Alvarez stated that not less than 50 congressmen from Liberal Party expressed willingness to join the PDP-Laban.
Meanwhile, Alvarez confirmed that they had a meeting with House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. last night.
In the meeting, Belmonte assured to support the programs of the Duterte administration.
The PDP-Laban is in the process of selecting the next majority leader. Included in the list are Ilocos Norte Rep. Rudy Fariñas of the Liberal Party, current Minority Leader Ronaldo Zamora and CamSur Rep. Rolando Andaya.
Alvarez emphasized that their priority at the opening of the 17th Congress is to push for federalism.
