There are only about three weeks before the opening of classes in all public schools both in elementary and high school nationwide.

This year, the Department of Education (DepEd) will begin to implement the senior high school, or grade 11 which is a part of the Enhanced Basic Education or K to 12 program.

In line with this, the education department is expecting the influx of inquiries from students and parents and this is the reason why the Department of Education has opened its hotline number to answer questions about the senior high school program.

“We would like to know, like for example, they changed their minds on what track they are going to take up. They change their minds like they wanted to transfer into a private school thru the voucher system and now they wanted to go back to a public school. They can call that number for their questions,” Asec Tonisito Umali explained.

For those who have queries regarding K to 12, they can call senior high school hotline number at 667-11-18.
The line is open from Mondays thru Fridays, from 6:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Senior high school hotline will provide their service until June 30.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education assures once again that they are continuously working on the preparations as the senior high school begins this year.

“We are continuously hiring teachers which we will use for grades 11, as well as their trainings, procurement activities for their equipment is also continuous, and even construction of additional classrooms, majority of these are already done,” Umali added.

Despite of non-stop criticisms on the implementation of K to 12, the officials from the education department assures that if the upcoming administration orders to stop the program, they are ready to abide by this order.

Umali said, “We don’t want to preempt the incoming president Rody Duterte, whatever he will say, same with the new education secretary, there is no doubt we will obey it,”
