TONDO, Manila — The PNP Women and Children’s Protection Unit, together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, raided three entertainment bars along Juan Luna Street in Gagalangin, Tondo early this morning.
Authorities placed the said entertainment bars under surveillance for three days and verified that they were employing underage women or minors.
” The KTV bars are employing and hiring minors for the purpose of sexual exploitation or prostitution,” said police inspector Maimona Macamasa.
At first glance, the place looks like a simple videoke bar, until one reaches the second floor where small rooms are designed for prostitution.
“The ground floor is used as a simple videoke bar. Then they have VIP rooms upstairs where they would lead the customers to the women for sexual services,” Macamasa said.
Overall, authorities have rescued 14 women. Three or four of them are minors.
Two pimps or promoters of the women were also arrested.
Based on police investigation, the establishment is a rented space and one of the three bars is owned by a barangay official in Gagalangin.
Authorities are contemplating on the possible charges to be filed against the owner of the bars.
