DAVAO CITY, Philippines — President-elect Rodrigo Duterte has not yet issued a statement regarding the beheading of Canadian hostage Robert Hall by Abu Sayyaf group (ASG).

On the other hand, according to the incoming presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo, the primary policy of Duterte is to fight criminality and threat of terrorism.

“I’m sure he will respond to the situation. I don’t know yet his reaction because we didn’t talk about it. But since he is against all forms of criminality and legality, of course he will be outraged by that fact,” Panelo said.

Panelo added that as to date, Duterte remains firm in “no ransom policy” on kidnap for ransom groups.

As of now, the Aquino administration has the jurisdiction on fighting criminality up to June 30.

But once President-elect Duterte takes the helm, it is expected that stringent actions against criminality will be implemented.

“The moment he assumes the presidency, I’m sure there will be swift and fast reaction to the situation. There are no doubts on this,” Panelo assured.
