It has already been thirty years since the administration of former president Corazon Aquino tried to negotiate with the Leftist groups.
And now, even though the 16th President of the Republic Rodrigo Duterte has not yet taken his oath, the peace talks will definitely be pushed through and implemented between his administration and the Communist Party of the Philippines – National Democratic Front and New People’s Army.
Incoming presidential adviser on the peace process Jesus Dureza mentioned to UNTV News team some vital agenda in the resumption of formal peace talks in the third week of July.
He said, one of the most vital points of discussion will be the ceasefire between the military and the NPA while conducting peace negotiations.
“The most important point of discussion will be the mode of interim ceasefire. Eversince the talks started, ceasefire was never discussed because NDFP did not want to but based on our experience, ceasefire is very important for both camps while negotiations are on going,” Dureza said.
One topic in the agenda will be the reconstitution of those who belong to the list of Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) so NDFP consultant detainees will be released to participate in the negotiation process.
Before July, NDFP will turn over the reconstituted list to the incoming government as well as the list of political detainees for the general amnesty.
“NDFP will send us a list. List of their consultants and members covered by JASIG and we will recommend them to President-elect Duterte for amnesty since they need to participate in the peace negotiations,” Dureza said in a phone interview.
It is the priority of the incoming administration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte to fast track the negotiation process which has already been pending for many years already.
