Business leaders lay down recommendations as consultative workshop concludes

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — As the business leaders meeting comes to a close, the Filipino Business Community has laid its recommendation to the members of the Cabinet of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte.

The group lays down the members’ suggestions by writing them on sticky notes and posting them on the board.

Some of the recommendations include fast processing of business permits;
promoting responsible mining; providing faster internet services; improvement of transport network; improvements at airport terminals.

They also suggest revisions or restrictions on excess penalties on banks; revision or simplify the tax system; respecting the sanctity of contracts; prioritizing rural development and expanding the conditional cash transfer program.

Meanwhile, incoming Transportation and Communications Secretary Arthur Tugade challenges the business leaders to be vigilant in fighting corruption within their sector.

Tugade promised that within the first 100 days in office of the Duterte administration, they shall have already provided free internet connection in all airport terminals and seaports.

He also promised the centralization of traffic regulations in the country.

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte arrived at the venue later in the afternoon.

He said, he welcomes the recommendations coming from the business community while emphasizing on the importance of proper implementation of law and order to achieve real progress.

“Verily, this will be studied by each and every department to where the subject matter belongs. Then, maybe, I just could read it in final form and convene the Cabinet to give its input. But I have no doubt on people I have chosen comprise of the Cabinet,” Duterte stated.

Some agencies were also warned against corruption. These include the Bureau of Customs.

Duterte also shared to the group his sentiments on mining.

“Improve on it. When you reach at the end of the field of small-scale mining, I want the trees planted on how many years. Kailangan meron pati yung washing ng chemicals. If you do not do it, I will cancel the permit.”

The incoming president also stressed to the Filipino business leaders his campaign against illegal drugs.
