TAGUIG CITY, Philippines — Various scenarios for this year’s metrowide shake drill were simulated today in Taguig City which the local government says has been successfully conducted.
Among the scenarios simulated were the collapse of a portion of city hall, attempted escape of prisoners, fire at a public school and looting at a nearby shopping center.
About 2, 000 participants joined the simulation including the private sector.
Mayor Lani Cayetano said, cooperation among the participants was succesful. Rescuers responded quickly to those injured in the simulated scenarios.
“The drill was successful because the stakeholders have cooperated well. Other government agencies also participated well in this drill like the PNP, Bureau of Fire and DepEd,” Cayetano said.
Though the drill was considered successful, the challenge on encouraging residents to seriously participate still remains, according to the local government.
mayor cayetano said, some of the participants do not seem to take the drill seriously.
Until now, you can observe that though they are participating, some of them cooperate just for compliance.
The challenge is how to convince them and to change their frame of mind to take seriously the dangers of calamities.
Cayetano also said that they will further intensify their information dissemination to instill in residents the importance of shake drills especially since parts of Taguig City are located on the fault line.
“That’s what we will try to intensify. That every household and families has a deep understanding and knowledge of drills like this one.
The local government also ensures that plans are already in place to provide immediate response in case ‘The Big One’ hits the city.
