Former vice president Jejomar Binay said, he is ready to face the Office of the Ombudsman over the case filed against him and his son, dismissed Makati mayor Junjun Binay.
The case is in line with the anomalous contract on phases 1,2 and 3 of the Makati city parking building from 2007 to 2013.
In a statement, Binay’s spokesperson, Atty. Joey Salgado said, “We can now confront our accusers. We can look at the evidence, if there is any concrete evidence against the vice president. And we are very confident during an impartial hearing that there will be no basis for the allegations against the vice president. “
But according to Binay’s camp, the ombudsman violated due process; their constitutional rights and the agency’s own rules in filing a case against the Binays.
Atty Salgado said, such case is a diversionary tactic of the ombudsman to divert the public‘s attention away from the investigation being done on the disbursement acceleration program or DAP involving former Pres. Benigno Aquino III and former Budget Secretary Florencio Abad.
Salgado added, “We all know that just recently, a case was filed against leaders of the Liberal Party over DAP. This is only to divert the attention of the people and at the same time to pursue the political agenda of the Liberal Party. All these years, it’s clear that the political enforcer of the liberal party is the ombudsman.”
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales had said before that the cases they are filing are supported by evidences against the accused, and motivated by politics. (JOYCE BALANCIO/ UNTV News)
