QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Three hours after his cases were assigned to the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division, former vice president Jejomar Binay immediately posted bail today.

He went through booking procedures for at least two hours which included finger printing and taking of mug shots.

The former vice president paid P376, 000 in exchange for his temporary liberty.

This after the Ombudsman charged him with graft, malversation and falsification of public documents.

His son, dismissed Makati Mayor Junjun Binay also posted bail of P100, 000 for the three additional cases filed by anti-graft agency.

Early this morning, the Sandiganbayan en banc decided to assign Binay SR’s cases to the 3rd Division for consolidation.

“The court, represented by justices, present this morning have decided that the Binay cases will no longer be raffled this morning but instead assigned for consolidation with the earlier Binay cases now pending before the 3rd Division,” said Associate Justice Oscar Herrera.

According to Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, the Chairman of the 3rd Division, now that the Binay cases are consolidated, it might take some time before they can determine if these cases have sufficient basis.

They are still resolving the motion filed by Junjun Binay, questioning the information of the case filed against him.

Justice Tang assures that there will be an impartial trial for all the accused.

“Repeatedly, we always say that we will simply rule based on evidence. We don’t care about politics because our job should not be swayed by politics. But we are dictated by what is the evidence on record,” Tang said.

Aside from cases relating to the Makati car park building, the 3rd Division is also hearing graft cases pertaining to the anomalous procurement of medical equipment for the Hospital of Makati in 2000 and 2001.

Jejomar Binay’s wife Elenita, who seated as mayor at that time, is the primary accused in the case.
