MUNTINLUPA, Philippines — The first batch of more than 300 Philippine National Police – Special Action Force troopers are now on duty at the New Bilibid Prison.
Gradually, the SAF troopers will take over and replace the 900 guards of the NBP as requested by Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre.
PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa expressed his confidence in the capabilities of the SAF troopers to guard the inmates in the Bilibid.
“You know why you are here? It is because you are the best policemen in the Philippines,” Dela Rosa said in his speech.
“Our purpose is to stop the entrance of contraband in the prison; to stop their communication from the outside world where they could order illegal drugs particularly from other countries (…) They will not be corrupted. They are the most incorruptible policemen in the whole Philippines.”
Alongside the ceremonial turnover of duties, the SAF troopers held a thorough search or Oplan Galugad in Building 14.
All 53 high profile inmates were boarded into two buses including Herbert Colangco, Peter Co and Jaybee Sebastian before they executed the operation.
The troopers were able to seize cash money, a number of cigarette packets, appliance such as tv and electric fans, signal booster and bladed weapons.
“No matter how much you jam their signal, they have a signal booster for their cellphones so they are able to communicate. A [tv] was seized at the roof of Peter Co’s kiosk. So, hopefully he will no longer have contact from the outside world,” said Dela Rosa.
It was the first Oplan Galugad held under the leadership of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre.
Meanwhile, Sec. Aguirre was unfazed by the assassination plot discovered against him by high profile drug lords from inside the Bilibid.
“The information I received is still fresh and it is from a very reliable source. I am addressing this to all the drug lords inside the maximum Building 14. They have created a pool or a group gathering all wealthy drug lords to pool 100 million pesos to corrupt the Secretary of Justice, if not, at least liquidate the SOJ. They are planning to enter into a contract of 50 million for my head. That has been received by one of the inmates there in Building 14,” Sec. Aguirre said.
It has been reported that a total of one billion peso-bounty is placed on the head of President Rodrigo Duterte and PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa due to the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
