President Rodrigo Duterte and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez are now planning to establish the Philippine Sports Institute that would focus on athlete development in the country.
According to Chairman Ramirez, the commission has started its data gathering this month to chart the master plan of the sports institute in August.
During the program “Get It Straight with Daniel Razon,” Ramirez explained how important the said institution is in promoting sports advancement in the country.
“I strongly believe that for as long as the Philippine sports will not have a sports institute that would train coaches, teach sports science, sports psychology, and define talents, the Olympic world would still be in a fantasy,” Ramirez said in his interview.
Ramirez added that corporate and private sectors like UNTV could contribute to sports development.
“I’m trying to engage into seeking partnership and help from private sectors like yours, Kuya Daniel. Your television could greatly help in communication, education. It’s not all about money. It can be in terms of goods. What I’ve seen with the board is that we should collaborate, we should partner for us to succeed. We can’t do it alone.”
Ramirez says once the sports institute is established, he and President Duterte plan to issue an executive order for its continuous operation even after they step down from office.
