Beginning today the Department of Agriculture is distributing P2 billion worth of machinery and equipment stashed in the compounds and warehouses of DA buildings across the country.
Regional directors are given two months to dispense the machines to its LGU beneficiaries or to farmers.
Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol has previously revealed P100 million worth of farm equipment have been rusting away at the compound of the Department of Agriculture in Cotabato.
These have not been distributed in the past because intended beneficiaries failed to provide 15% of the equipment’s amount as cash equity.
The DA has decided to allow farmers to pay in installments over a period of four years.
Also up for investigation on Piñol’s list are the rice processing equipment stationed in various parts of the country but are never utilized due to lack of electricity. (REY PELAYO/UNTV News and Rescue)
