CAMP CRAME — Amid the intensive anti-illegal drugs campaign, the Eastern Police District (EPD) continue to conduct internal cleansing within their ranks.
EPD Director PSSupt. Romulo Sapitula said, they have completed the drug tests among 2, 700 policemen. Two of them tested positive of illegal drugs. They are now under summary dismissal proceedings.
Aside from them, four other policemen voluntarily surrendered even before the test.
“We get assistance from the local government of Pasig for the rehabilitation. The response is good together with their family who are likewise helping them,” Sapitula said in a press conference.
Despite being relieved from their post, the four were not placed under dismissal proceedings. Instead, they are now under counselling and physical fitness programs.
The four policemen together with their families received counseling and were encouraged to make a fresh start.
“When I talked to the police, they were crying. Why did you use drugs? When you started using drugs, were your problems solved? Don’t you love your family? Your children? You are gradually killing yourself and the future of your children,” Sapitula said.
Based on the records of EPD from July 1 to July 24, a total of 3, 103 drug users and pushers voluntarily surrendered to authorities; 206 drug suspects were arrested; and 24 were reported killed, nine from legitimate operations and 15 from summary executions.
