MANILA — The Manila Police District is now conducting a manhunt operation against Vhon Martin Tanto – the suspect in the killing of Mark Vincent Garalde Monday night after a traffic altercation in Manila.
This after Tanto failed to show up at the Manila Police Headquarters before the 5 p.m. ultimatum for his voluntary surrender.
The police considers Tanto as armed and dangerous.
“He is considered armed and extremely dangerous as shown in the video so extreme care and precaution shall be used by the police in order to neutralize and use deadly force against him if necessary,” MPD acting district director SSupt. Joel Napoleon Colonel said.
Authorities want to get the suspect dead or alive.
Tanto was identified by authorities based on witnesses accounts and also thru the records of his vehicle – a Hyundia Eon with conduction sticker MO 3745.
Initial investigation reveals that the suspect is a businessman and a reservist of the Philippine army detailed at the Community Defense Center in Caloocan City.
Authorites also found out that Tanto has 3 firearms registered to his name, 2 caliber .45 and a caliber .40 pistol.
“Our action now is to gather the ballistic records of those firearms in storage with the Firearms and Explosives Office and we will compare it with the empty shell recovered from the crime scene,” Colonel said.
Police are checking if the suspect has permit-to-carry firearms outside of residence.
The police appeals to the public to give information on Tanto’s whereabouts.
Authorities already went to the suspects house but failed to find him there.
Police says they will be filing murder and frustrated murder charges against Tanto for the killing of Garalde and also for wounding a certain Rocel Bondoc who obtained a gunshot wound and is still in the hospital.
The shooting incident was captured by the barangay’s CCTV.
