Issues on West Phl Sea, illegal drugs, peace roadmap, tackled in National Security Council

Four former presidents are present in the National Security Council meeting today in Malacañang.

The meeting was convened by President Rodrigo Duterte at 3 p.m. with former presidents Fidel Ramos, Joseph Estrada, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Benigno Aquino III.

Also in the NSC meeting are Vice President Leni Robredo, Senate President Koko Pimentel, House Speaker Bebot Alvarez, minority and majority leaders of both houses of Congress and some chairman of senate committees involved in security and cabinet members.

According to Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella, some contentious issues tackled are the West Phillipine territorial dispute, illegal drugs and also regarding the government’s peace roadmap.

The Duterte administration is hopeful that the 4 former presidents will support the government’s actions & policies regarding the said issues.

“At the end of the day, they’re all presidents of the Philippines. It will be cooperative venture,” Abella said.

The details and results of the National Security Council meeting are expected to be released by Malacañang in the coming days.

Meanwhile, issues as well as solutions on terrorism, maritime security, climate change and the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement or EDCA were discussed during the meeting between United States Secretary John Kerry and President Duterte.

The United States of America has also provided financial assistance worth 32 million dollars for the training and services of law enforcement agencies.

The U.S. Secretary of State also explained some provisions of the Paris climate change.

According to President Duterte, the Philippines is ready to support the agreement if all will be fair.
