Owners of high-end bars are willing to enter into an agreement with the Philippine National Police allowing surveillance in their establishments.

This, after PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa announced his intention to speak with the owners of bars where drug syndicates reportedly hold transactions.

According to NCRPO Chief P/CSupt. Oscar Albayalde, once the memorandum of agreement is signed, they will deploy two to three policemen in civilian clothing who will stay and do the surveillance inside entertainment bars.

“Initially, we are coordinating with them and they are willing to allow police in civilian clothing to conduct surveillance in their respective bars. They [owners] were very cooperative when we were discussing the proposal. It is to clear doubts against their establishment from alleged distribution of illegal drugs particularly the party drug ecstasy,” Albayalde said.

They will start the operation in bars at Bonifacio Global City.

“In random, we could deputize police intelligence operatives in civilian clothing. In BGC particularly The Valkerie, have agreed to the operation as well as other bars,” added Albayalde.

The Quezon City Police District will also hold its own surveillance.

“We will be coordinating with the different management of this establishment for us to be able to have access on them. And for sure they would allow us because our aim is to minimize the proliferation based in the reported presence of ecstasy and other party drugs,” QCPD Director P/SSupt. Guillermo Eleazar said.

Just this weekend, two suspects were arrested including a radio DJ in a condominium in BGC who was caught in possession of ecstasy and marijuana worth millions.

The suspect is facing charges for violating R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

At present, police assets are along the perimeters of bars until the MOA is signed between the PNP Chief and the bar owners. — Lea Ylagan / UNTV News & Rescue
