Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar has visited today the on-going construction of the NAIA Expressway project at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The NAIA Expressway is a 4-lane road project.
Phase 2A will connect Macapagal Boulevard to NAIA Terminal 1 and 2 while Phase 2B will connect the domestic road to terminals 3 and 4.
According to Sec. Villar, the agency targets to open the Phase 2A project to motorists by October this year coinciding with first 100 days of the Duterte administration.
“[We ask for] a little more patience. We’re almost there. The president’s directive is [to work] 24/7 and so we are going to work 24/7 until we finish this NAIA Expressway project,” said Sec. Villar.
Meanwhile, the agency plans to complete the Phase 2B project in December where a large volume of passengers is expected to arrive at the airports.
“Significantly, those who go to the airport, they’ll be able to avoid the service roads and so their [travel] time will be cut as to 1/4 time because of the NAIA expressway.”
Once the project is finished, the travel time for more than 80,000 motorists heading to the airport terminals will be lessened.
Vehicles from South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and CAVITEX may also take the expressway.
Based on DPWH’s prediction, travel time from SLEX will be reduced from the previous 20 minutes to eight minutes only depending on the flow of traffic.
The said project is more than seven kilometers of elevated expressway which has 16 off-on ramps positioned in Villamor Airbase, MIAA road, Seaside Drive, Imelda Avenue and in other strategic locations.
