The number of drug-dependents who come to the program “Serbisyong Kasangbahay” to surrender because of fears for their safety has increased.
Alias “Donce,” 36 years old, has been using illegal drugs for ten years.
He uses four times a week but which sometimes turn into a daily routine.
He had tried rehabilitation but continues to fall off the wagon and back to his vice in no time.
“I am brave but i also have fears. Not just for myself but for my family as well,” alias Donce said.
With the help of the program, alias “Donce” had been turned over to the Police Community Relations Group (PCRG) and to the Marikina City Local Government.
“We will have to check the matter. At the same time, we will check if he really voluntarily surrenders. And since he has surrendered, we will document this and assist the turnover to the police and the local government,” PCRG Director P/SSupt. gilbert Cruz said.
“What we would do here in the local city government is to ensure his safety. And then after the surrender, we would design the program for his recovery,” said Coun. Manuel Sarmiento, Committee on Dangerous Drugs chairman.
Meanwhile, Leonisa Ramos, 39 years old, returned to the program to express her thanks.
It was on January 8 when her mother came to Action Center ni Kuya (Kuya’s Action Center) to seek help for her.
She was detained for three weeks after being accused of theft by her employer (stealing jewelry).
With the help of Law Center ni Kuya, on August 4, the charge against her was repealed.
“Thanks be to God. I had a very big problem. But I have been acquitted with the help of Kuya’s Action Center,” Ramos excalimed. — Jun Soriao / UNTV News & Rescue
