The Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) reported that an Indonesian kidnap victim was able to escape from the Abu Sayyaf Group in Sulu.

The WESMINCOM confirmed that 28-year old Mohammad Safyan escaped through the mangroves in Brgy. Bual and Bato-itum, Luuk, after his captor declared his impending beheading.

Local residents rescued him along the shoreline of Brgy. Bual in Luuk, Sulu and brought him to the municipal police station.

Sayfan went through the documentation procedure in Sulu Provincial Police Office before he was turned over to his family.

Sayfan, a crew member of tugboat Charles , was among the six individuals kidnapped on June 23, 2016 along the waters bordering the country.

Pursuit operations of the joint Task Force Sulu is ongoing to rescue the rest of the captives. — UNTV News & Rescue
