The Lower House will begin deliberations on the 3.35 trillion peso-2017 proposed national budget of the Duterte administration.
The House Committee on Appropriations chairman Karlo Nograles assures a thorough study of the proposed budget for agencies and programs of the administration.
“Then we will do this budget hearings to ensure that we don’t have pork also no fat in our budget,” Nograles said.
The committee will look into the welfare assistance given by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and also to the budget allocated for the policemen and soldiers’ proposed salary increase.
“Our watchout in salary increases, we have to take in consideration the actuarial computations their pension funds. We don’t want to come into a situation where we may bankrupt their pension funds,” added Nograles.
Under the 2017 proposed national budget, about 39.5 billion pesos is allocated to miscellaneous personal benefits fund for payment of compensation adjustment which includes the salary increase of policemen and soldiers.
The increase in salary of uniformed personnel was endorsed by President Rodrigo Duterte who promised to push for its accomplishment while he is in power. — Nel Maribojoc / UNTV News & Rescue
