TACLOBAN, Leyte — Supporters of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. express their support for the mayor who is inside the municipal building.
They hold placards with written messages saying, “You are not alone. We are your constituents in support of you. We love you Mayor Daddy Espinosa. We love you Mayor Daddy Onick.”
The acting leader of the group, Mary Ann Romero, says they are helping in providing security to the mayor, fearful for his life and his family’s.
“Since he arrived, we have been staying here overnight until dawn. We do not want anyone to harm the mayor. We are die-hard supporters of him,” Romero said.
Meanwhile, a number of residents muster their courage to speak on the issue of illegal drugs in their area.
According to barangay councilor Protacio Macamay, in the past they refrain from staying outdoors in fear of being killed due to crimes in their area.
“We are happy that we are free to go out. We held back in the past to speak of illegal drugs in our area because we are afraid of being kidnapped and killed such as the eight people who died just recently,” Macamay said.
Some residents are thankful that P/SInsp. Jovie Espenido was re-instated in Albuera
“It’s good that Sir Jovie is here to defend us. We are able to sleep peacefully at night without worrying that our children outside will be harmed,” said Rolando Mascareno, Albuera resident.
Residents say they hope that peace and order will remain in their place while the rampant illegal drug problems is being resolved. — Jenelyn Gaquit / UNTV News & Rescue
